Vorwerk Kobold Cordless VB100 Vacuum Cleaner Review – vs Dyson
A full-truth review of the Vorwerk Kobold KB100 cordless vacuum cleaner. Other reviews: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBxUOcW7kaEtK3qcKCMEaLKTrP8Ehu8sz
What an excellent video I wish there were more like this out there. I have one myself and agree it is very cumbersome putting on the tools etc however, I am a fan of bags but, having seen your video I am considering a dyson as I will be having more carpets fitted. However, tried one in a store once and found the dust smell blew out at my face because of the positioning of the vents. That was a few years ago though so maybe they have improved that aspect and it was a shop demo.
The main advantage with any bagged cleaner is that you do not have to clean the filters – the bag is the filter. Every bagless cleaner on the market requires the filters to be cleaned regularly which are always full of dust (otherwise you will loose suction).
Dyson has no mop attachement for tiles, and Kobold does. So i bought the Kobold, as their mop attachment works really well on my tiles. The vaccuum itself is meh and way overpriced, but the mop attachment is unlike any other product that I'm aware of.
Dyson fact: To sufficiently implement Kinetic on their cordless vacuum, Dyson needs more powerful motor to make it work effectively. For a motor to be more powerful, it needs more power. And if you want more power, you need a better battery that can handle all the power. It's the battery that's the main limitation of the current Dyson cordless vacuum cleaners, and therefore, it's probably the last thing needed to allow Dyson to implement the Kinetic tips from some of their final main vacuums into their new cordless vacuum.
What an embarrassing product. I snorted when you showed the flap switch. They're definitely selling to corporate offices, hoping they'll buy this instead of a Riccar Supralight as a cordless upright because that's the form factor their janitors are used to and office managers don't care about price.
Something that really confuses me is the continued use of brushed DC motors with bypass cooling on clones. Dyson doesn't have a monopoly on brushless outrunners and they're incredibly cheap to build and drive. Off-the-shelf FOC ICs even come with active braking! (Dyson's "boing"). It's 2022 and there is literally no reason to be using brushed motors anymore. They have more parts, wear faster, waste power and blow out carcinogenic dust under normal operation. Brushless motors are simple, inexpensive, and have no wear parts at all if correctly specced. Even the fan design (multistage radial fans aren't a Dyson patent or anything) hasn't evolved a bit. Every other manufacturer is still just slapping a disc fan on a shaft because they know low price and novelty wins sales. Vacuums are the latest household appliance to slip into disposability rather than serviceability, and it's just sad.
The fact that you are giving up potentially 10s of £1000s to provide comprehensive, unbiased performance analyses of mainstream vacuum cleaner products is truly remarkable.
Take aways from the Kobold. That battery location on the is really bad. Above the dirt bin. I could just see the battery contacts getting dust on them over time. The tools look pretty useless too. $283 Pounds for a brush. You can buy a whole vacuum for that. The overpriced bags are tiny. Seems like a waste of cash to me.
Have you ever vacuumed a hardfoor twice to test how much dust is left? I experienced with my cylinder vacuum with a hardfloor head that some dust remains after the second cleaning and emptening the bin. Even than i clean thoroughly the first time still some dust remains. I think this happens because a cylinder vacuum blows air close to the ground and some dust fly away so not all can be sucked in the first time. I think this is the main reason. The second reason is maybe that the non rotating head cleans not so thoroughly like a rotating head. What do you think?
Agree with all of this, £700 for a not fab mainly floors only machine (the advertising where they show its above floor cleaning made me laugh when it first came out) is nuts, makes the v15 seem reasonably priced! I had a vk200 corded model in my hands recently and it was a disappointment too, flimsy, narrow air paths and tiny expensive bags.
Wow I’m amazed at the design of this considering the hefty cost especially the mini motorised head! It’s like they’re having a laugh
Btw a couple of questions- 1) Did you keep the ball Animal 2? If so I’m curious as to why 2) what’s your predictions about the next cordless Dyson and the sources?

Are you incapable of restraining yourself or do you take pride in being an insufferable know it all?
I may have to test it!

Still no sign of the new Dyson yet 🤔
I wonder how their corded model would perform compared to this one. My family had the kobold VK200.
Nnot that good in English… So he recommends Dyson 15 over Vorwerk?
