You should try and follow the direction of the wood if you're worried about scratching and if you see a rock pick it up. I got one today. I agree with you on the battery shortcomings. I charged mine for about 2 hours and I also got around 30 minutes out of it give or take which was disappointing. Thought something went wrong when it stopped as they say it should last 40 minutes.
Update : I’m still using it but only on the carpet , not on our wood floor because of all the scratches It leaves every time there’s a small rock as tinny as sunflower seeds!
To be fair, nobody ever vacuums cheerios off the ground, those are picked up by hand through common sense. Im sorry to say but you could use a better example than full sized cheerios.

dont think a vacuum is for picking rocks and cereal up more for a rug try a sweeping pan and broom
