See how to replace the battery of your Dyson V7 and V8 cordless vacuum. Your machine may differ from the example shown, but the process remains the same.
If your machine displays a red flashing light that flashes more than 12 times, this could mean that the battery needs replacing.
Always ensure you disconnect your machine from the charger cord before carrying out any maintenance.
The battery pack can be removed from the machine by undoing the 3 Philips screws which hold it in place – one on the handle, and two on the underside of the machine.
The new battery pack can then be fitted in the same way.
Step 1. Remove the three screws on the underside of the battery.
Step 2. Dispose of the existing battery as per local codes and regulations.
Step 3. Locate the new battery into the handle.
Step 4. Secure in place with the three existing/supplied screws.

Nice video, thanks!
Thank you! I love my Dyson!
Excellent video!
my 1st battery could not have had a total of 5 hours of use and was shot the 2nd one lasted even less . i charge it constantly . never again- very disappointed
Thank you man, you have save my time to work out how to do it all. I will buy new battery and replace it for my wife soon.
Thanks 👍🏼
Great video. Job done.
They probably make it hard to figure out how to replace the battery because they want you to buy a new vacuum. The Dyson batteries are about 3 times the price as the generic ones so I bought one off Amazon after typing battery replacement for Dyson, and DTK popped up. They're all made in China anyway. Now, where to recycle the old battery?!
The video was very clear easy to follow certainly something I could have done myself, but buying a screwdriver to do the job was a nightmare I could only buy it in a $58 pack of 6 which I didn't want nor could afford in the end a friend came and did the job for me but WHY can I not buy either from Dyson or a hardware shop the right tool to do the job without having to buy 5 others that I didn't want
what size phillips screwdriver do you need?
I'm seeing a lot of comments in here, why the early battery replacement. A lot has to do with the owner/operator. The instruction manual tells you clearly the run times with the powerbrush attachments. These vacuums are robust, but not shop vacs. Constant heavy use with motorized attachments especially on the wand on max settings takes its toll on the battery, almost like running a vehicle constantly on full throttle. Maximum suction should only be used short intervals on slightly heavier conditions on stairs that have carpet with a vacuum powered turbo attachment that works on vacuum, preferably with the wand removed and direct powerhead attachment. Also high should be used briefly on the crevice tool for corners that have dust bunnies or imbedded dust in the crevices. On sofas and under the cushions use the non motorized brush to get dust from under the couch on high setting. Don't do a whole carpeted floor on max or boost setting because that will drain a battery in no time and reduce its life. Don't vacuum drywall, sawdust fine sand silt from dried mud. Careful with coffee grounds, because the oils centrifuge out and stain or stick to the inside of the cyclones and any fine dust can stick to the sticky interior cyclone separator canister. When emptying the canister. Give the bottom of the cyclone canister a gentle tap with the palm of your hand and see if dust drops out. Keep filters clean, by periodically washing them allowing them to dry for 24 hours. After 9 months or so, service the cyclone canister or get it serviced by qualified technicians for a deep clean. Neglect and not keeping the unit clean or constant load reduces battery life. Battery maintenance starts with the owner operator of the equipment and the proper does and don'ts that goes for any lithium ion battery operated device.
Looks like I need new battery for my Dyson v7. Charging but only last 20 seconds if lucky. Its only just over 2 yrs old. Don't think I be buying a Dyson again
Can’t see what screw drivers? It looks different on each screw
6.0Ah V7 batteries exist on Amazon, wow. The one it comes with is only 3.0Ah.
Perfect. Thank you!
I was hoping to see the screwdriver you used. I have a set of tiny screwdrivers, but none seem to fit the pattern of the screws in the two holes, and of course, I can't see inside the teeny holes.
Why does Dyson sell a set of torx screwdrivers for replacing the battery (MV Battery Screwdriver (F36)) if a philips will work?
I would appreciate any advice/tips/suggestions. I really need to use my V7 vacuum.
Does the screws take a special tool ?
The most important thing to keep your Dyson long term
Thank you so much!
That is the cleanest vacuum that needed a battery replacement
Love these videos with no talking; just action. I'm ordering the battery replacement that uses Dewalt 20V batteries, with an adapter. We will see how it goes.
Why don't they figure out a better way to remove the battery easier for us who like to keep extra batteries on hand?
