Get a Riccar S10D its 499$. You won't regret it. Light weight.
There's probably an internal program that has a recharge counter so that once you've recharged it a set number of times it quits working. There is a YouTube video showing how to reset the previous version LINX batteries. Maybe the process is similar. You might look at that and see it you can reset the counter.
Does the unit not have a warranty?

I've had this vacuum for 4 months now. I use it about once a week, and works awesome. Now I'm scared of the battery dying because I just don't have the budget to buy a $80 replacement battery!! Hoping I don't have the same experience because I love this vacuum.
