Dyson V6 & V8 Cordless vacuum, Monthly maintenance – Filters and Powerhead cleaning

In this video I show how to keep your Dyson V6 and V8 running smoothly, by monthly maintenance techniques to the filters, and to the main powerhead / direct drive floorhead. I show how to remove the cyclone assembly and bin on the V8, and bin removal on the V6, in order to facilitate easy cleaning. For this job I use a standard vacuum cleaner with a hose and dusting brush, as most people have a corded vacuum in their home with a hose. I also show how to best wash the filters – both pre-motor and exhaust filter. The Machines shown are the Dyson V6 Absolute, and the Dyson V8 Total Clean, although the processes apply to all Dyson V8 models.

Hi thanks for the video…I have a QUESTION…just waiting for my filters to dry out and will see if it resolves my cutting out "stop start" problem…. … I saw another video where the person cleaning the cone shaped filter had removed the top …. as though it is a removable capp…but they did not show how they did it. I've filled with it but like you have not managed to remove mine. Any ideas? here is the video: https://youtu.be/fdnu4yk-5vI

Gibson Terrell says:

Thanks my vertical filter was FULL! No wonder it stopped working. I figure it will work in the morning once the filters and other bits dry.

What brand of vacuum is the one that has the power buttons on the handle?
Is that a central vac system? I live on a houseboat and own three v6's. I love them, they are worth the money
I paid for them used on craigslist. No way could I afford them new. Let me know where
i could find a hose vac like you have. Thank you, and thanks for your video..

pirmi pirmi says:

thats not how to clean the center filter. you need to take off the cloth to remove the dirt inside

Thank you so much for this great video! I have a Dyson v8 Absolute. I love it compared to other vacs I have owned. It just started to have the carpet brush Motörhead operate intermittently. I followed your cleaning instructions and now it works perfectly! Thanks again from Minnesota US.

Karrie Morris says:

So i was just wondering about cleaning the hepa filter, submerging it in water, and getting it wet and cleaning it in general doesn’t damage the Max button or the light? Is there no actual electronics to that part?

Alex Martin says:

Hi Steve, do you prefer the V6 (hence why it is used more)?

Aaron Thorne says:

Great videos I don't suppose you sell any of your machines do you?

depechem0demusic says:

Hi Steve-great video as always but just changing the subject slightly-have you seen the live launch video by mr dyson himself of the new V10-I won’t spoil it for you by filling you in on the highlights but I really recommend you watch it.

Conor Riddell says:

thank you for doing this maintenance video because I can show my friend this video. she has a dyson v8 absolute that she bought 23 months ago and she has never washed the filter, all she does is vacuums it of. and the other maintenance job she does is cuts the hairs of the brushroll.
