The Dyson V12 Detect Slim is a cordless vacuum made to be smaller and more compact. While this means a smaller dustbin and slightly less suction (150 AW), it more than makes up for it. Across all of our tests the Detect Slim showed excellent performance, removing 98.6% of total debris, avoiding hair tangles, and removing pet hair.

PROS
Lighter than other models, just 5.2 pounds
Fantastic performance in cleaning tests, removed 98.6% of total debris by weight
Easily cleaned long hair and pet hair

CONS
Expensive, especially compared to non-Dyson
Small dustbin, just 0.1 gallons / 0.38 liters

Thanks for your review. I’m debating between the v12 and the v10 but I cannot find a comparison of the two. Are they just that different/similar or is there a big difference in age that they aren’t worth comparing?

Cristiano Ruggeri says:

real working speed in real house cleaning is much faster then your forwarding test speed, so your tests are not so useful in real life 🙁

Paradoxical says:

I wish you could tell us the height in feet as well as meters as someone who lives with the metric system.

Kris Van Allen says:

K. The hair test in the kitchen I noticed that you didn’t use the fluffy head. Was that due to only the head, or can you use that motor head on all surfaces?

Mila says:

After 10 months, despite good care, defect!

Barry Allen says:

Seriously though…just vacuum your house and show us how it works.. i will pick up the cheerios by hand, were not that lazy…I would like to see a video of someone using it on everyday dirt not some slobs that use it in the shop…

Ghost says:

do you find yourself emptying the bin out often since it's so small??

Rob Visentin says:

Hi , I love the dyson v12 detect slim . my question is Does it use the same vattery as the v15? I am wanting to purchase an extra battery.

Double Skull says:

Good review👍👍

Bryan Brandon says:

Should I get the V15 detect, v12 detect or the v12 detect absolute extra? We dont have carpets, only tiled floor and dusty furnitures lol

Mauris Thorbs says:

Very helpful. I just purchased and am hoping I don’t have buyers remorse. Appreciate your info. 🤝

nonshatter7 says:

I'm torn between this and the more powerful V15. The straightforward on/off button on this will probably persuade me to get this.

Clone-232 says:

Hi, Is v11 hepa filter compatible for v12?

Ying Reinhardt says:

Thanks for your review on the Dyson V12! It helped me make my mind about which Dyson model I should get. In Germany, it's sold here by offering different brushes and tools. The more tools you get in a package, the more expensive. So, is the extra soft brush tool necessary for vacuuming delicate objects or would the combi tool work just as well (since it also has soft bristles)? And would the hair screw tool be a good substitute to vacuum couches and upholstery or should I also try to get the mattress brush tool? Would love to know what you think! Thanks so much!!

SnowTi says:

There is something in your dB measurement that ain’t right.
Not just by a margain, but by a lot. Every other review i’ve seen measure this thing at above 70 dB.
The most quiet vaccums in the entire world is rated at about 54 dB – and they have been designed to be very quiet.
It’s not possible to make a stick vaccum with this sort of dB rating.
You should google some other reviews and look at their dB measurements and compare it to yours.

azitaulava says:

Got a v12 fluffy detect today, so far looking good, hopefully battery last a solid 4 years and ill be happy.

J B says:

Would you recommend this over the V11? For someone with a 3 bedroom apartment, 1 bedroom has a carpet.

Ihor Menshykov says:

Going for this one vs v15, as it's like 15x quieter. Thanks for the measurements!

BILLYCHIU.com says:

Does the V12 Slim share the same Extension Hose part with the larger V15?

k. star says:

thank you for this useful review!!

cyigen85 says:

dyson v12 slim (none detect) vs dyson v12 slim detect? is the only difference the piezo detection that the detect version has or am i missing something?
