Dyson V12 Detect Slim on Amazon – https://geni.us/cugUpA
The latest updated list of cordless vacuums we recommend: https://www.consumeranalysis.com/guides/cordless-vacuums/best-cordless-vacuum/
In this video we test the Dyson V12 Detect Slim for raw power (CFM and suction), long term suction (flour clog test), surface level pickup (on carpet and hard floors), deep cleaning, battery life, debris containment (fog test), hair tangling, and ease of use (weight, handling, control, and dust bin size).
The V12 is only recommended if you vacuum frequently and have a small space to vacuum. Otherwise, if you vacuum infrequently or have a large space to vacuum, we recommend a larger Dyson like the V8, V10, or V15.

I strongly urge anyone considering this vacuum to look at Dyson’s spare parts page for the V12. They haven’t made replacement filters available for purchase for over two years and they are perpetually out of stock. Don’t buy a vacuum you can’t get replacement parts for.
I’d agree I have the v12 and I love it. It’s super light and a joy to use. Much more powerful than expected I have a animal 2 as well and thought there would be much more drop off. I have dogs and kids so vacuum every day and unless I go 5-6 days without cleaning the small dustbin isn’t an issue.
Thank you for this video, I just ordered my 1st Dyson BUT I got the Ball Animal 3 corded upright….HUGE mistake. I have terrible lower & cervical spine pain but didn’t realize the corded upright Dyson would be so tough to manage. After realizing it will be impossible for me to use it I started looking at their cordless vacs. The V12 detect looks to be a lot easier to handle thanks to your video.☺️
Thinking of buying one! Do you perhaps know the depth of the handle from the wall when it is attached to the charging station?
I have limited storage possibilities but can’t seem to find it anywhere
Iv done weeks of research looking for a vacuum with high water lift that I can attach a quarter inch hose to that will still allow good suction.
Is there anyway you could test this with a Dyson for me and tell me if it stays on or if it will shut itself off from lack of airflow like it’s clogged?
Seriously you would make my year if I could get this piece of info from you.
Good video, concise and to the point.
Thanks for your detailed review! I decided to buy the V12 – have to say coming from a Miele C3 with a bag, is kind of a leap, at first the v12 feels like a toy, however, slowly i am realising how good it cleans and now appreciate how lightweight it is and more importantly, not bumping into furniture around the apartment when vacuuming! Moreover, lets not forget with Miele I had to buy and replace the filters, the motor filter and bags every so often…which adds up. Miele always ended up smelling dusty which i hated, so far very pleased with the V12 . Regards from Spain
If you vacuum every day or close to it the small bin size is irrelevant
Great video. Any information on long term use of Dysons? These cordless Dysons and Sharks seem to have become throw away tech, the warranty is only for 2 years. The battery dies and the cyclone gets clogged.
Are you back?!
