Dyson has said they are going to stop developing upright vacuums because the expect their new Dyson Cyclone V10 cordless vacuum to eventually make uprights obsolete. We tested the Dyson Ball Animal 2 upright vacuum against the Dyson V10 Absolute to see what the differences are.

Basically we found that while the Dyson upright had significantly more airflow the V10 consistently performed better with the crevice pickup tests. It also was superior on hard floors, especially with larger debris.

At the same time we found the upright was better on carpet (as long as it was LOW pile carpet, and the agitation was lightyears better than the V10.

We tested the battery life of the V10 to see if it could handle vacuuming large houses, and found that in low and medium power, the V10 should vacuum just about any house with either of the cleaner heads, though you get much more battery life using the soft brush cleaner head.

Strange thing is UK dyson uprights have floorheads with suction adjustment

Bought and paid for by dyson

Sam Arendsen says:

Question: I have had many cordless vacuums. while granted they were the cheaper styles, but I always found the battery on them died within 9 months to 1 year. At that point the vacuum company had changed styles and of course the battery that goes with them. So I was never able to buy a new battery to keep them going past a year.

Anyone know if Dyson has that same issue…when they release new vacuums does that make the battery on the older model obsolete? That’s a lot of money to spend for a years usage.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Alex Beatty says:

Are these comments true for the new expensive uprights too? I have an old DC25 bought used and it was supposed to be bad on high pile carpet too but I don't have the problem. I have one large shag rug and it does well but I scrub making sure to go over repeatedly

Cj Smart says:

I honestly think that Dyson shouldn’t stop making corded vacuums.

I mean cordless are good, but for more power I feel like I’m still gonna need some form of a corded vacuum cleaner for continuous power and continuous cleaning.

M R says:

I use to use the corded cylinder for many years, swiched to cordless for the past year and noticed dust mights all over the house. Simply put don't use cordless!

Casey2060 says:

I think I'm my opinion I would lean towards the corded up right. Least with this way there's no wait on battery charge time. Would hate have to empty the bin every 5 minutes

Wow, VW has gotten a lot better in the last year (2019). I always sing the praises of my V8, but must admit that lately, there's been a decline in battery run time. No surprise there and not really complaining. But it is real. And I cannot vacuum my entire 1700SF house on a charge. Don't really care because I never vacuum the whole house at once. I must find the receipt so I can determine how long I've had it before the noticeable battery degradation began. Worst case, I'll replace the battery. Or maybe sell the V8 and get ?? For 95% of the use cases, cordless "rocks".

DookB says:

I have the Dyson V11, which didn’t come with the soft roller, so I ordered one from Dyson. It was delivered to my doorstep yesterday, but I’m out of town.

Sachin R says:

I have a Dyson v11 and it's the best vaccum I've ever owned… Dyson animal 2 is pretty bad..

LouFTP X says:

Good for cleaning under the beds?

Jack Carline says:

Get a dyson from Britain

Jus Be says:

LOVE LOVE LOVE my animal 2. So powerful

Ccrawford says:

Did anyone else notice for the crevice pick up test he turned off the brushroll for the animal 2 but left it on for the v10

Italian V says:

Dyson also needs to have replaceable batteries like Shark. Would make it so much more convenient than a 3 hour charge.

Italian V says:

Great video Chris as always!!! I love your videos!! I am disappointed that Dyson is not developing any new corded vacs. I have both of these vacs and totally agree with your comparison!!

Ontopof Theroof says:

Excellent comparison! I tried to find something I could disagree with but I couldn't. Only one comment. If the batteries lose capacity, this cuts into your cleaning time proportionately. So plan ahead.

Kishan Jadeja says:

Overpriced junk… I hate my Dyson, threw it away. And a corded vacuum does not take a long time to plug in… Cordless is bullshit technology. For pussys.

EarnNES says:

If ever there was an outfit/uniform for a person who knows this much about vacuums, this guy is wearing it! Thank you for the posting this very informative video. Have a happy and safe new year. Peace

Mark says:

Chris… I have all your books, they are brilliant! I've been wondering what you've been up to. Now I've stumbled upon you by accident. I hope you'll be back writing books again in the future. God bless you! I hope you are keeping well in the Lord!
