Apparently you are not meant to wash the bin bit because if any of the left over water gets into the machine part while using, it can seize the whole thing. I was told to use a mild disinfectant spray to clean it.
If you get it wet with running water Don’t forget to spray WD40 in the brush and motor head bearings.
