So lets finally get to the good news, The soft roller is a very recent invention ( I think By Dyson but Im having trouble confirming that) which is starting to show up on a lot of vacuums cleaners especially cordless vacuums. But Shark which in 2016 patented integrating it with a standard brushrolls in their Duoclean line uses it with upright vacuums as well as their cordless and stick vacuum line.
To make a long story short, soft roller heads pick up just about everything they touch on hard floors, in fact they are only limited by the size of the intake holes on the vacuum. But its not just about large debris, ironically they are also better than anything before them with super fine debris like dust on hardwood floors. In other words they pick up anything and everything. And if you have hardwood floors you owe it to yourself to try out a vacuum with this soft roller technology and Im sure you will agree with me that the long awaited problem of vacuuming hardwood floors has finally been solved.
So which of these soft roller units are the best? Well that depends, as I mentioned at the present time you are mostly seeing these in cordless vacuums like the Dyson V8 and V10, or the Shark Ionflex But lots of other companies are joining in the fun including the Roidmi F8 Storm which I will be reviewing in a few days.
But if you wanted an upright with this technology I think the only way you can get it is by getting a Shark Duoclean vacuum, and Shark has pretty much converted all their vacuums to Duoclean with a variety of price points. I have owned just about all of them with our favorite being the mid level NV803 Speed for its light weight construction. But I also use the top of the line Shark Apex pretty much daily with our cleaning business.
I tend to lean toward the Shark over the Dyson soft roller Systems for a few reasons, the first being that because the Sharks are corded vacuums they have a lot more power than any cordless vacuum can achieve, and that’s always a good thing in my book. Also the Dyson air intake is quite a bit smaller than the Sharks meaning they are much more likely to get clogged as we saw with out tests of the Dyson V10 and the Shark Ionflex.
And finally with the Dyson you have to change out the soft roller head for the motor driven head if you come to a patch of carpet, because the soft roller on the Dyson is simply not capable of being run on carpet, whereas with the Shark Duoclean you just keep vacuuming while fillping a switch on the handle, as it preforms great on carpet as well.
It never ceases to amaze me what this soft roller vacuums can pick up and believe me I have put them to the test.
I am open to suggestions, so let me know in the comments if you have found another solution for hard floor vacuuming and Ill be sure to look into reviewing it.
I will link all these vacuums below, please consider a like or a subscription to Vacuum Wars if this video helped you out and thanks for watching.

This issue with the soft brush, is the stuff passing through the brush is scraped against the hard floor. The old fashioned large open nozzle is the best choice. I actually sell Dyson vacuums and repair them.

Interesting videos you do ! You should do a 'Buyer Beware One' with Warranty's ! Service Tech with a Floor Care Company for Years here..both Commercial and Residential.. and I can tell you a few 'Horror companies to Avoid' !
I wonder how long it takes using the soft brush roll on hardwood before it sandpapers of the lacquer….
Pet hair is nothing compared to wife hair 🙂 that stuff is everywhere!

The refurbished Dyson V8 Absolute arrived. My home has never felt more clean. The soft roller brush is brilliant and I am sold on the cordless vacuuming experience. Now, what to do with my old corded Simplicity? I can’t imagine I’ll have a use for it again.
Does hair wrap around the soft bristles easily and if so is it hard to clean?
Will the dyson soft roller head attach to the wand on their upright models?
What’s the best vacuum for carpet and rugs
Hey, I have an idea for a video, sort of an experiment, why don't you try a vacuum from wish, and see how much of a value it it, it would be fun lol
Great review. Did any of the hardwood heads for canister did ok?
I have a saers Kenmore powermate
use a shop vac, they are cheaper than normal vacuums because they lack the motor for the spinny thing but their suction is usually stronger and can suck up liquids
Great video! do you know where I can buy the NV801 in 220V? I'm living in Israel and looking for this so bad!
TEST TYE SHARK APEX ZERO-M
What attachment are you using on the v8 @ 2:23? I’m looking for a hard floor attachment other than the fluffy.
I simply loveeee this channel
Shark is coming out with a tangle brushroll Apex speed in the fall of 2018.
The sebo Felix with the bare floor tool that comes with it is by far one of the best performers I've seen in the upright vacuum business. I'm currently working on a video showing the difference between Motors and bare floor nozzle
Is vacuuming even necessary for hardwood floors? I used to use a Shark Pro cordless sweeper and was wowed by how effective it was in sweeping dust, hair, and cereal even at the edges. The design was just a spinning roller, but it never snowplowed nor kickback things behind it. I was hard pressed to catch more with a broom, and only needing a vacuum for any crevice work.
What did you think of the Wessell Werk?
Are you still planning on doing a video about the hard floor tools mentioned in this video? I would love to see how they perform as I have been looking at several of these!
Like it sub it it is best channel
I can't post the picture but there are only 6 left and fulfilled by somewhere in the UK
I'd say the Dyson fluffy head (hard floor soft roller head) is about the best there is for doing hard floors – its a dedicated hard floor tool that can pick up just about anything you'd commonly find on hard floors, and is also fully washable in case it gets soiled. Its available on the V6, V7, V8 and V10, and is commonly supplied with the "Absolute" package for each model of V8 and V10. The V7 is also available with it, but only from select outlets dependent on country. The V6 did come with it, (V6 Absolute (US but not UK) V6 Fluffy and V6 Total Clean (UK, not US) )but is largely discontinued now, so only second hand or old stock models will be able to be found.
I have a question about the Shark Duo Uprights. Does the front brush prevent the vacuum from making a proper seal to deep clean carpet?
BTW are you going to get the hardfloor plate for the Kirby?
Something to be aware of with the Shark Apex – The small wheels on the underside of the powerhead are very weak, and can fall apart, which affects its durability when cleaning hard floors. This guy has had endless problems with his Apex when used on tiled floors: https://youtu.be/mNClvgRmiYw
I love hardwood much better then nasty carpets .
Great video! It's very hard to find a truly good hard floor nozzle.
I have not tested the latest soft roller vacuums, but for years my ultimate favorite has been the Twinner. It was invented in the 90's and people are still buying them like hot cakes. Only nozzle what can suck up large debris without any snowblowing. I guess it's not available in the US 🙁
